3 Radical media (BOTS) ethics and practice

Update:

The "ethical" bot server is up and running.

Please give constructive feedback if you're interested.

Looking like #OMN will be running a (BOT) sever to feed radical media onto the #openweb

We already run a LINKING sever to run side bar linking for sites who wont them http://omn.openworlds.info

Ethics

I don't mean the badbots https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Botnet

I do mean taking good stuff that is not widely linked on the #openweb as the producers put all there effect into the #closedweb through pushing good stuff only on the #dotcons

I need feedback and ideas for how to run (BOTS) in a ethical way.

The accounts should be free for the CC content owner to take over and run themselves if they like.

Q. How much content flow is to much?

Q. Pushing out linking to copyright content? Best practice on this?

Practice

Q. what is a good way to AUTO add this good stuff to the wider #openweb?

Q. what can we avoid to have bad outcomes in this?

Bots to create:

(strikethrough each url once implemented)

Sample text to use for bot users: "An unofficial (bot) posting content from "

You can create RSS feeds on the #dotcons with this service https://zapier.com/app/editor/34715800/nodes/34715803/fields

Setting up a bot:

  • Create a account with the user-name (domain)@visionon.tv this is a catch all so I can click on the confirm link, chase me up if I don't spot it.

  • Login, fill in bio and add image from organization website "an unofficial (bot) account posting content from LINK TO SITE" then maybe a line about the project a link to this document would be good.

  • Be logged into the new account on mastodon and run https://152.228.175.108/rt/ and login with the name of the instance

    • NOTE: Using https you will get a warning about the certificate. Almost certainly the cert will be fine. It's just because this service is currently only accessible via direct IP.

    • NOTE: The site is also available via plain http (not recommended)

    • Do not have any trailing '/' at the end of the url (this is just for consistency until backend code takes care of it).

    • Use '- {Title} {Link}\n\n' for the bot "Format"

    • Use '#omn #[bot-username]' for the digest signature

    • Default set up to use digest feature, with max 5 posts per toot

    • For the Filter, here is the simplest solution to whitelist all posts:

      • Field: ID
      • Matches: Matches
      • Regex: .*
      • Type: Whitelist
      • Use better/more specific regex as you see fit
