### "Don't Hate the Media, Be the Media!"
UK #indymedia, near death, was ripped in two by internal social forces - https://archive.indymedia.org.uk/. These two "victorious", blood-spattered parts promptly expired. The battle of open/closed had NO GOOD OUTCOME. We need to remember this simple truth for the reboot.

The idea is to:
- keep it simple
- keep it simple (KISS, PGA, 4opens)
- push the balance of control from the geek to the producers/users
- use existing tools to build an open network, then let the users decide how to use it
This is the “news” part of indymedia; the privacy-focussed, activist part is needed as well. In the end, the network consistes of human-moderated flows of information that are technologically neutral - anything can be a hub and/or peer in the network.
- use existing good UX tools to build a #4opens network.

### What can you do to help the OMN indymedia reboot?
* Teach people the [#4opens](https://unite.openworlds.info/indymedia/Editorial-Collective/wiki/4-Opens), and review potential tools and projects
* Outreach the [#4opens](https://unite.openworlds.info/indymedia/Editorial-Collective/wiki/4-Opens) to review tools and projects
* This reboot is not _about_ tech - all code is ideology - the #OMN its a social solution to a social problem
* It's easy to keep crossing wires with "media" vs. personal data. Media/news should be open, with clear sources (except when protecting them). Personal data should default to private please bear this in mind.
