Current behavior is that displaying images navigates away from the current page. While using the back button is a reasonable expectation to return to content, it no longer feels polished or professional by the colonizer standards pervasive on the web

While a lightbox plugin and the framework dependencies likely for such are clearly offscope for Epicyon, a progressive enhancement (onclick handler) could open a layer in the foreground with the image and close it with a click. If JavaScript is a hard WILL NOT IMPLEMENT, a CSS solution might be possible
