The newswire is a place for grassroots first hand news reports, made up of photos, audio recordings, video and text reports. Links from existing grassroots media projects.
Comments are a place for people to feedback to these posts, the 5w have a more limited role here.
Reports should be “news” and those should “embody” the 5W of basic journalism.
Likely 99% of open newswire posts will be removed as “non-news” to start with, this will lower to 90% after a bit of feedback and training. The main job of the editorial collective/mods is to clean the news wire to keep it as a news flow. In the end the proportion of non-news should drop to a manageable level based on the use of the 5 functions.
The main function of the site is to use the newswire as a source to bring together “features” these can be suggested by anyone and then will be produced by the editorial collective. Bringing together links, text, images, video and audio from the newswire to tell a good outreach 5W storys covering action/event/story from the different views represented on the newswire. These are drafted and then agreed to go live by “consensuses” of the editorial collective.
The indymedia project is a network, not a silo, so not only is the newswire made up of first hand reports it is also made up of features from other subject/geographic indymedia instances that share content with each other ver RSS and activertypub.
